GHB: The Deadly Party Drug

GHB can make you happy and horny with no comedown but a milliliter too much can put you in a coma or kill you. You may have heard about it as a chemsex or a date rape drug, the substance that leads to DJ Jackmaster’s career being canceled, or in headlines about overdoses all over Europe.

With a lack of reliable statistics and reporting, we investigate just how widespread this dangerous drug is. What we uncover is alarming: a hidden G epidemic has been spreading through raves and clubs across the continent, leaving a trail of death in its wake.

We travel to the party island Ibiza, visit Holland’s hardcore fanatics, and DJ Jackmaster speaks out for the first time since he was accused of sexually harassing festival staff while he was on the drug.

Out Run

As leader of the world’s only LGBT political party, Bemz Benedito dreams of being the first transgender woman in the Philippine Congress. But in a predominantly Catholic nation, rallying for LGBT representation in the halls of Congress is not an easy feat.

Bemz and her eclectic team of queer political warriors must rethink traditional campaign strategies to amass support from unlikely places. Taking their equality campaign to small-town hair salons and regional beauty pageants, the activists mobilise working-class trans hairdressers and beauty queens to join the fight against their main political opponent, a homophobic evangelical preacher, and prove to the Filipino electorate that it’s time to take the rights of LGBT people seriously. But as outsiders trying to get inside the system, will they have to compromise their political ideals in order to win?

Culminating on election day, Out Run provides a unique look into the challenges LGBT people face as they transition into the mainstream and fight for dignity, legitimacy, and acceptance across the globe.

3MMC: Europe’s Explosive New Party Drug

Europe is undergoing a synthetic boom, with hundreds of stimulants springing up across the continent. None though are creating quite as much buzz as 3-MMC. Piggybacking into the party scene off its predecessor Mephedrone, 3-MMC (3-methylmethcathinone) offers a cleaner, cheaper, and potentially more addictive high with virtually no comedown. Many describe it feeling like a mixture of cocaine and molly—no wonder partiers can’t wait to get their hands on it. But, they’re not the only ones…

Since its ban in 2022, 3-MMC has been illicitly trafficked back into Europe by mafia groups in the Netherlands. Smuggling shipments of drugs and precursor chemicals into Rotterdam and neighboring Antwerp, underground mafias are on the verge of turning the Netherlands into a narco-state.

Zach Shucklin heads to Berlin and Amsterdam to learn about 3-MMC’s unique properties, its role in the party scene, and the potential ramifications for its growing popularity.
